The Big Question

One of the toughest questions to answer only has three words.

Many of you will try to guess. Don’t bother. Chances are excellent you will not come close to figuring it out. Before you move on, let’s try a few hints. The first one would be the adjective esoteric.

The second? The question could be considered a philosophical topic.

And the final clue? It includes a pronoun.

Had enough with guessing? The three words the form the ultimate question is:

Who Are You?

How many of you began listing off the roles you play like mother, brother, friend, college student, co-worker, or grandparent? Or did you think of your qualities: patience, loyalty, intelligence, honesty, and passion?

If you really felt empowered, you might head down the road of your hobbies and interests and call yourself well-read, an entomologist, an herbivore, or an avid cyclist or runner. Are you a vegan, or a lacto-vegetarian, ovo-vegetarian, or both? Do you eat meat? Or only grass-fed beef? Free range chicken or do you only order the other white meat?

If you headed south to the stickier topic of politics you might say you are conservative or liberal, Independent, Republican or Democrat, or neither. You might say you are fiscally conservative yet socially more open to alternative choices.

Where does it end? It all seems a bit too contrived and boorish.

So, coming back to the reason we started all this, can you answer the question?

Who exactly are you anyway?

Does it even matter to you, or have you ever even entertained the concept?

Either way, I say it does matter to know who you are and why you are living on earth during these times.

Who you help answer the other essential question which is “Why am I here?” You are uniquely you, having survived conception, birth, childhood, puberty. It is time to get to the reason why you are living on earth with 7.8 billion other people. That was until Covid hit and destroyed our chances of hitting overpopulation by 2050. According to www.worldometers.info, the cumulative death toll as of the 4th of September was 4,571,624 worldwide. Lots of folks perishing every day. The US has some of the highest numbers. That is a whole lot of people succumbing to the virus.

So why wait to ask the question.

There are multiple tools to help you figure out who you are. Start by studying masters and mentors, or by reading books, journaling, and meditating. These are all ways to help you know thyself more intimately. Interview those close to you and ask them how they see you. Only ask those who are emotionally intelligent, or you are wasting your time. Seek out those who understand themselves and friends that tend to be able to sympathize with others. Steer clear of narcissists who can’t see past the end of their nose.

With all my cards on the table, I truly believe it is essential to ask yourself those tough questions. When I first began to contemplate my own answer in my thirties, I did all those things I listed above about my hobbies and my roles. Then I read Kierkegaard who said, “Once you label me, you negate me.” That stayed with me. When we do not live up to others’ expectations of us, our true self ceases to exist. It works the same for the labels we give ourselves.

So, I stopped calling myself a wife, a girl, a financial adviser, or a writer, or a business development officer. What a mouthful that title was.

Today my answer would be so much more detailed. Although I am a mother, I retired from that role when the last one left college. Now I am more of a mentor or a safe place when the going gets tough for any of my four grown children or any other young soul who needs guidance. My passion lies in reading, writing, exercising, meditating, and communicating with the divine.

I spend hours playing Mahjong, a tile-based game from China in the 19th century, and brain games in literature, flexibility, and adaptability which are my favorite. Every day I listen to and study Dr. Joe Dispenza and his ground-breaking work with the brain. He taught me how to activate my pineal gland through meditation with heart coherence and brain coherence. While exercising on my elliptical, I play on my I-Pad a design game with thousands of others worldwide who vote on my work.

I love to write letters, be up before the sun rises, listen to the quiet, and watch the moon phases. I stopped drinking hard alcohol and drank dozens of bottles of Prosecco during Covid. Rocks, flowers, animals, jewelry, and the moon are my top five favorite things. Fall is my dearest season, and the Fourth of July is my cherished holiday. I was born under the Sun sign of Sag but have a Moon in Cancer and an Aries Rising.  I love to garden yet only in pots since the hail obliterates my ground garden every year. I have more plants than friends. My husband is who I want to hang out with the most and is one of the smartest and kindest people I know.

And why am I here?

To write articles and books, communicate what I have learned, give away money, build tiny houses for veterans, educate orphans who cycle out of the system on their eighteenth birthday, teach others about the divine, learn everything possible, heal everything possible, give birth to three boys, and finally…drum roll please,

Figure it all out so that someday, in some way, I can Ascend.
